Getting to Bambers Lodge & local transport
Our location in the heart of the Ribble Valley makes it a little tricky to arrive by public transport – but not impossible as some of our guests have already proved!
Local railway stations:
- Clitheroe (Manchester link) – 6 miles / 15 minutes
- Skipton (Leeds link) – 17 miles / 30 minutes
- Leeds (East Coast mainline) – 40 miles / 90 minutes (or change for Skipton)
- Settle (Settle/Carlisle railway) – 13 miles / 27 minutes
- Blackburn (Manchester link) – 18 miles / 40 minutes
- Preston (West Coast mainline) – 24 miles / 50 minutes
Local bus routes:
- Our nearest bus stop is in Grindleton, with an hourly service from Clitheroe railway station. The bus stop is 3 miles away by road (we don’t recommend walking the rural lane to here, but we may be able to collect you if timings allow – contact us when you book to check this)
- Google maps may show an old bus route past the Lodge; this hasn’t run in many years!
Taxis (we haven’t tried these out!):
- Station Cars, Clitheroe 01200 422422 (4.5 stars on Google)
- Clitheroe Taxis 01200 444144 (3.5 stars on Google)
- Skipton & Craven Taxis 01756 701122 (4.5 stars on Google)
Driving:
- We’ll send full details when you book, approx driving times are shown above from key towns in the area.
- The Lodge has private off-road parking for one car, with your own access from the road.
- We don’t currently have any electric vehicle charging (June 2023) – here is a link to nearest charging points. https://www.zap-map.com/live/ Our postcode is BB7 4PH.
Cycling & walking:
- We don’t recommend walking all the way to us unless you’re experienced in rural walking, including how to safely walk on rural pavement-free roads. Once here there are many great walks to enjoy 🙂
- Cycling to us is a great option if you can bring your luggage along with you, and the Forest of Bowland sees hundreds of cyclists every week so you’ll be in good company!
- We have a lockable bike store with additional locking points inside it – bring your own locks. The bike store fits 2 bikes, or 1 tandem.
- There are many cycle routes available on Strava etc which you can search for and enjoy. Here is a link to some Pendle Hill based routes to inspire you.
- Gisburn Forest is about 20 min drive away if you’ve brought mountain bikes on your car – or you could cycle there to enjoy some trails (it’s just too far for me!)
